Simeone clashes with UEFA referees in heated training ground incident

What was meant to be a routine meeting at Atlético Madrid’s training center quickly spiraled into tension. A UEFA refereeing delegation, led by Carlos Velasco Carballo, had come to explain this season’s new rules to the squad and staff.
But the atmosphere shifted when the name of Julián Álvarez was raised. Diego Simeone pressed for clarification on why the controversial penalty incident from last season’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid—an episode that cost Atlético dearly—was not used as an example.
Velasco Carballo refused to comply, sparking Simeone’s fury. The Argentine coach stormed out of the room, shouting: “I’m ashamed. Ashamed!” before rejoining his players on the pitch.
According to El Club de Uría, confirmed by AS, the episode left Atlético’s players baffled by UEFA’s uncompromising stance.
